A mysterious package arrives at your doorstep with a strange, rambling note from your Uncle. The note is stained with some dark red spatter, and it's contents bode ill. You know you should not open this box, but as it sits quietly on the floor at your feat you can feel a persistent itch in the back of your mind.

I must open the box.

Solomon's Box is a short, point and click puzzle game. It was built as a test/demonstration of a javascript point and click framework I've been working on. As such I would very much appreciate a comment below if you run into any technical issues or have any feedback to help me improve the framework.

Thank you, and have fun opening the box.

fun play, would love to see it expanded upon!

can someone explain to me which symbols go in each of the 4 squares? i understand that the symbols are on each side of the box, but can't figure out why they go where they do to solve the puzzle - have watched a walkthrough and still don't get it!

each symbol is in a corner (eg top right) which corresponds to what square it goes in

There feels like there's more to this.

easy game  i hate the music or sounds to these games they sound creep Ola lol

Perfect, yeah very rusty lake, needs to be a full game with this kind of animation and skill.

This is so good! I hope there is like a sequel to this game.

Its actually really good love it

Rusty Lake meets The Room. very nice!

(+1)

very fun, it reminds me of the rusty lake games

20 second speed run B)

I loved this! It reminds me a lot of the Room and games like that. Quite enjoyed it and ran into no technical issues

Pretty good game, loved the twist at the end, these are my thoughts on it.

I do have a few questions though, what happened to the uncle, and what happened to us after we open it? Do we just send the box to a new person?

(+1)

The idea was that the creature trapped inside the box eats away at your sanity and tries to compel you to open the box and release it. I didn't really explain it, but I think my idea was that the uncle was trying to mail the box somewhere safe, but the creature tricked him into sending it to his nephew instead.

As for what happens after opening the box, the creature escapes and fully takes over the nephews mind. I had intended to make a more fleshed out sequel where you play as the uncle who returns to construct a new box and trap the creature again, but I got a new job shortly after making this and haven't had nearly as much downtime. Maybe it will happen someday.

Oh, thanks for explaining, I was confused about why the ending was like that, and your explanation cleared it up.

Wow that's so cool! 5 stars!

I see some people getting stuck on the symbols so here's a hint if you need it.

Look at any writing on the box

I am but it's still very hard :') (both to read for me personally and to know what it means)

(1 edit) (-4)

This is the runic stone puzzle, in case some of you are stuck because SOMEONE doesn't know how to fix their game. -.-

-Your welcome to anyone who was stuck and this helped them! :D

I was not aware there was a problem. What's causing you to get stuck?

(-3)

Sorry for the negative feedback, I was just mad that I couldn't figure it out. But here's what I do; I'll get the key and do the zodiac signs, get the stones then won't be able to get the black twist panel for the locks.

I just played through it to ensure everything was working correctly. The key you get from the face opens the small panel on the front of the box under the big door with the sigil on it. The black lever to unlock the eyeball is in that panel. I'm sorry you had a hard time. Have a great day!

(-1)

Okay I just played through, thanks for the assurance! I was confused at first but still, a great game! 5/5 stars on rating. :D

-Have a great day also!

good game loved the puzzles

This was a very fun game. I would love to see something similar but longer. The game is very well made and entertaining but it's really short.

wtf

i just guessed and got it LOL

This is such a cool game!

it was difficult at first, but I did eventually figure it out. I did, however, find the difficulty made this more enjoyable, especially since I'm always a sucker for things like this. I hope you keep up the good work!

Also, I would like to know if you are working on any other games that are similar to this one. Like I said, this game was a very good one, and I would love to see more of your games like this.

Hi, I'm very happy to hear you enjoyed the game! I do have outlines for more puzzle games similar to this one written up, and it was a fun project so I would love to make more of them. It really just comes down to how busy work is and how burnt out I am in my free time. Hopefully I will get to do more soon, though!

I loved this game a lot!! Always nice to find a fresh interesting puzzle game, and a horror puzzle game to boot!! It was great fun to play!

Thank you, I'm very glad you enjoyed it. I hope to make more if I can scrape together enough free time.

Hi! Great game! And maybe download or buy this game? If so, how?

Hey Dmitriy, I'm glad you enjoyed the game. Unfortunately because it is an HTML5 game, there isn't really a great way to offer it as a downloadable game. Even if I made the files available for download, if you try to run it locally it gives a bunch of errors in the browser and doesn't run properly. It need to be hosted on a server in order to run. Sorry, I hope that's not too disappointing.

i am assuming its like Pandora's box which is some kind of evil force.

I loved it. The puzzles was very cool and I think you should do a extended version, because is really short. The atmosphere is creepy, I loved it. Just... WTF IS IN THAT BOX??????????

(+2)

Thank you for your kind comments.

You will be happy to know I am currently working on a prequel to this game that will be longer and have more story elements to flesh out what exactly is in the box. :)

Oh, very good hahaha

Hi! I really liked the game. Is it possible somewhere to download or buy? And what is the price? It is in Html5?

(+1)

Really short but nice. Nice puzzles and good creepy feel to it.

Hey, I wanted to thank you for playing my game in your video. It was an enjoyable watch for me, and I'm glad you had fun with  it.

I've noticed a few people have had difficulty reading some of the writing on the box, it seems my monitor settings have the contrast pumped higher than average, so I'll have to keep that in mind in the future.

You're welcome and thanks for watching my video!

Really good, fast and enjoyable!

I checked around for 2 minutes, starting seeing clues and understanding them at 5 minutes and then solved it! Zodiac signs are understandable and well pointed. My only concern: I get the item duplicated in my inventory if I click them fast enough. Check on that!

Also, the initial letter is good but the typography is maybe hard to read, it was at least a bit hard for me.

I loved this, the music was also really good, great job!

I'm glad you enjoyed the game, and thank you for the feedback. I was a little on the fence about that font for the letter as I was making the game, I will have to be more mindful of legibility in the future. Spamming clicks is always something I forget to test for in my projects, haha, I've had it come back to haunt me enough times you'd think I'd remember by now. I guess I need to put a post it on my monitor or something. I will look into fixing the issue.

Thank you again for your kind words.

Gave it a go...

A few minor comments:

1. I've become used to having a fullscreen option and missed it here. While clicking around trying to find one I skipped past the initial letter (which is kind of hard to read in a small window) and then couldn't get back to it to see if there were relevant clues there.

2. Maybe needs a bit more contrast on the zodiac clues; even once I twigged what to look for I had a hard time reading them. Or maybe I'm just old. Yeah, I'm just old.

3. In the initial letter, "it's" should be "its", more than once. Have a care for your players' OCD, man!

Otherwise, short but fun.

Fullscreen support makes a lot of sense, I don't think I can do much to implement it in this game without remaking all of my assets, but I'm going to do some research and figure out how to add it to my framework so it will be present in future games.

I've heard similar complaints about the contrast of the zodiac symbols from some local friends who've checked out the game, so I don't think it's just you. I may have my monitor calibrated wrong because they were very visible to me, but it's definitely been an issue for others.

Thank you for playing, I'm glad you enjoyed the game, and I appreciate the feedback!

That's not OCD.

Cool game. I've opened the box by solving "zodiacs" and then "chess". Have i missed something or other puzzles just for decorations?

Ah, were you able to solve the chess puzzle by trial and error? I hadn't considered that. The other puzzles aren't decoration, you can open the eyes on the face to receive a key that will let you solve them. The other puzzles are meant to culminate in a diagram that shows you the shape to make on the chess board.

I opened chess by placing all stones on the center cell.

Oh that's hilarious! I hadn't even thought to test for that, but I totally see how it would work now that you mention it. Thank you for sharing this with me, I will fix the bug soon.
